I read this somewhere, and I felt I like to share to the readers out there these interesting items.
The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature isn't just how you like it, think about how things used to be.
Here are some facts about the1500s:
Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May, and still smelled pretty good by June. However, they were starting to smell, so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.
Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children. Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying, Don't throw the baby out with the Bath water.
Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof. Hence the saying It's raining cats and dogs.
There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That's how canopy beds came into existence...

Last Sunday, all six of us in the family attended our youngest daughter’s school family day, so before dawn breaks we are already awake and the kids we’re so enthusiastic and excited for the event of the day.

Have you ever wondered why there are so many suicide cases nowadays especially among the youth? Statistics of suicide a decade ago are significantly lower compared today. People are growing apathy, and the lack of concern buries the issue of teenage suicide as just another hormonal imbalance among the present generations.
I am not a psychiatrist who tries to diagnose mental and social illness here; it’s just an observation from the point of view of a father who has teenage kids in this trying world.
Every one of us during the course of our lives experienced sadness. Soulful sadness that is so deep that you can even feel the hole in your chest as the wind passes through it. There is no one in this world that can safely say that he didn’t experience any sadness or the feeling of depression once in his life. But what’s alarming is the growing majority of the world’s population is depressed, it is evident among the proliferation of drugs that apparently “cure” the loneliness within which may eventually leads to suicide...

Logical thinking is a very important skill that has to be honed and taught in a compulsory manner to everyone. There are many everyday life situations that require the ability to think logically, situations which require sound judgment and common sense.
“I will do this, therefore if this will works, this thing will eventually happens, and also may lead to this and that.”
It is thinking in advance, thinking about the future, but not to the point of becoming a fortune teller, that’s entirely a different thing there. Actions manifested by logical thinking are based on the interpretations of existing and prevailing conditions and predicting in advance if the same occurrence and happenings continue to dominates...

As with my previous article, I have mentioned a lot of stupid things stupid people do, but I guess there is more to it than meets the eye.
When I started doing this blog thing over the internet, I was always being tempted to write articles which are all “feel good” ones, I guess nothing wrong with that, except that the inner part of me is yearning to shout and spit out words that are quite unnerving to some , no I’m not trying or attempting to be prophetic and change the world, maybe it’s the other way around, maybe I’m trying to end the world here, the world full of hypocrites and deception, the world full of lies, pretensions and sufferings.
Without sounding too righteous, I always wanted to talk about religion, being the most powerful institution at all times, the church is playing the major role of salvation of the humankind, the guardian of morale and the decay of it, the moving factor in every soul’s redemption, and the downfall of it and the most corrupt “chaste prostitute” of all times...

After reading this article which was forwarded to me, I myself am amazed at what poverty or richness can change a life of a person. But what really counts is how each of us will be able to deal with it in our own little way. This article really touched me a lot.

Something worth posting, writer Paolo P. Mangahas, 32, is currently working in Kuala Lumpur as Head of Communications for WWF-Malaysia (World Wide Fund for Nature Malaysia). He won Honorable Mention in the 2003 Doreen Fernandez Food Writing Award for his piece Adobo, I'm Home! and has published several essays on food, lifestyle, fashion, and social and environmental development.

Between Poverty and Paradise

LAST night, I had dinner with a German friend to talk about her planned trip to the Philippines . She had just completed an internship program in one of the law firms here in Malaysia and wanted to take a short holiday in a nearby country before heading off to Australia to finish her studies. She wanted to know more about the Philippines and asked me for tips on making the most of the two-and-a-half weeks that she had allotted for this vacation.
We planned her trip between bites, armed only with a faded map of the Philippines that we had downloaded from the Internet. My goal was to identify all the "must-see" places in the country (her criteria being beaches and volcanoes), plot them according to distance and flight routes, and then cram them all in 17 days. A tall order indeed, especially for someone like me who has never had a sense of direction even in my own neighborhood. For the life of me, I could not spot where Boracay was on her map. So I took the easy way out and told her to go to Palawan instead...

A lot of stupid things plague this present world that if you try to analyze it you will have a hard time sleeping at night and may cause amnesia and you may eventually commit suicide. I’m not kidding; our sense can only take so much of the stupidity that this world offers, and if our intellect endures so much insult from it--just like our physical body, our brain suddenly will suffer from different symptoms and in due course may acquire disease--one of those dreaded ones are APATHY and INDIFFERENCE.
For thousands of years people in different races lived their lives in the shadows of traditions and beliefs, most often backed by the religious fanaticism, and/or superstitious beliefs, I’m going to tackle beliefs not by those of sect and charlatans and of those extremists and fanatics, but just those common people’s thinking and principle where lays the foundation of everyday living...

This is how our two pets get along with each other, as opposed to common claims that they are arched enemies. Dogs and Cats can really live along with each other maybe humans are not, a good lesson to learn, though we have to see ordinary things a bit differently to have a clearer view of the real world.

It was a sunny Saturday afternoon of September 8 when we head our way to the heart of Makati City looking for a certain house in a posh subdivision in that area. After long hours of travel from nearly 40 plus kilometers of trudge we finally found ourselves in front of a big house with gates wide open. As we make our presence felt, different things crossed my mind.
After a minute or two a lady told us to come at the front door as we are expected by the owner of the house. My partner in life, Teena have been waiting for this moment in about a month or so, we have sbeen talking about this with the kids during dinner with much added excitement and anticipation, and finally the long wait will be over soon...

I never thought I would someday expressing that same line “what is happening to the world today?” as it is a popular phrase among the old folks back then when I was a kid, and I believe that catch phrase if may want to call it that way is the most used and abused line of axiom people living in this shit planet.
I have a little story to tell, bear with me on this.
Sometime late 90’s I lost my job, the animation studio that I am working for finally went bankrupt and had to shut down, jobless and all fucked up, my marriage went in shambles and finally went to the drain. Along with that the custody for my two kid’s shifts on me, no problem with that hard life as it is at least I have my kids...

There may yet be another reason why women should not be wearing bras – or at least limit their use. A Harvard study revealed this bare fact: There was an increase in breast cancer rates in women who wore bras versus those who did not wear bras. Wearing bras may reduce the normal function of the lymphatic system in and around the breasts. As a result, there is a decreased removal of toxins from the breasts and an increased occurrence of breast cancer...

I have come across this wonderful article about the surprising uses of the drug Aspirin; I never thought there are many wonderful uses to this drug aside from its original intention. Aspirin often used to relieve aches and pain and acts as analgesic, and to reduce fever and as an anti-inflammatory agent. I think this drug is an awesome invention since bread toaster, real cool.

One of the hardest things to do in this life is to forgive and forget. It seems like it is so easy to recall dark past and hurting rather than remember happy moments, especially if you have been hurt really bad. Most of us live our life though unintentionally in the shadow of the past, every sigh, every whisper we make; we expel hurting breath and pains of the past...
